Kingston’s all new 2.5 inch UV400 SSD’s designed for desktops and laptops, are now available in 120GB, 240GB, 480GB and 960GB capacities, are powered by a by a four-channel Marvell controller for rapid read and write speeds which gives the user speeds up to 10x faster than a traditional 7200RMP hard drive (HDD mechanical disk drive), and are also built using a SATA Rev. 3.0 (6Gb/s) interface which is industry standard at the moment.
The SSD market is constantly evolving with the need for faster SSD drives together with the need for increased storage space (higher capacities). The new UV400 SSD from Kingston offers both of these features together with much more. With the traditional HDD market almost non-existent now, SSD’s are rapidly becoming a user favourite and with the costs constantly on the decline, SSD’s are now a real affordable option for the consumer market.
The UV400 SSD’s are built using a solid looking casing coloured in silver, with some neat pins that can be seen from the outside of the casing to hold the drive together. The Kingston head is also emblazoned on the outside of the SSD so there is no doubt who the manufacturer of this drive is. The drive is also supplied with a 3 year warranty for complete peace of mind and unlimited support for free direct with Kingston.
The UV400 SSD’s are available as a standalone drive or as a kit which includes; 2.5" SSD, 2.5" USB enclosure, 3.5" bracket and mounting screws, SATA power and data cable, 7mm to 9.5mm adapter and hard drive cloning software so that you can clone all the data from your current HDD should you wish to move the data to this new SSD. The beauty of purchasing the kit is that it is also supplied with a 2.5” enclosure so this means you can use your redundant HDD as an external hard drive and connect it to any other device with a USB port such as a desktop or laptop.
The UV400 SSDs offer the following read and write speeds. At a glance it would appear that the 480GB capacity drive offers the best performance for the user;
120GB - up to 550MB/s Read and 350MB/s Write
240GB - up to 550MB/s Read and 490MB/s Write
480GB - up to 550MB/s Read and 500MB/s Write
960GB - up to 540MB/s Read and 500MB/s Write
